What is Wellness Coaching?
Wellness
Coaching is a partnership between you and your
coach designed to enhance your quality of life.
Coaches provide accountability, support, education,
advice, guidance and motivation to you. At your
initial meeting you explore with your coach
a vision for your future state of wellness.
On a weekly basis you work to set realistic
goals, developing a plan and a process for achieving
your goals, working through barriers and making
decisions on what motivates you.
Wellness
coaching is a process where your coach assists
you in developing new habits through incremental
lifestyle change. Your plan is customized to
meet your needs. Areas of work include such
things as weight loss/ management, nutrition,
fitness, stress management, health risk management
and other health behavior needs.
How does Wellness Coaching differ
from Personal Training?
There are many ways in which
Wellness Coaching differs from Personal Training.
Here are some of them:
- Wellness Coaching is a process
of setting a clear vision, 3 month goals,
weekly goals surrounding all of your wellness
behaviors.
- Wellness Coaches work with
you on an action plan. They do not guide you
through structured exercise programming each
week, like a Personal Trainer. Rather, they
work to motivate you to take action on your
own and report back your progress each week.
- Wellness Coaching does not
require you to meet in person. You may meet
either in person or via the telephone.
- Wellness Coaching involves
you taking ownership of your own health and
wellness, as your coach guides you through
a series of inquiry, reflection, self-discovery
and planning through obstacles.
- Wellness Coaching works on
'where you are now, where you want to be in
a future state, and how to fill in that gap'.
Coaches do not spend a lot of focused energy
on your past behavior.
- Wellness Coaches provide you
with the tools, support and structure to assist
you in reaching your goals that you are unable
to reach on your own.
- Wellness Coaches provide you
advice and education in all areas of wellness
based on your needs. However, Coaches believe
you have the natural creativity and resourcefulness
within yourself, which we help to bring out.
- You are the driver along the
path of your wellness road. Your coach is
your passenger that helps you along the way
when you have gone off course.
